First EVER Canada Cup Finals

In an epic East vs West showdown, the Champions from the Calgary Premier League faced the Champions of the Toronto Premier League during the FIVB 3-Star Event in Edmonton on July 19-20th.

The Toronto Champions, Galaxy Volleyball All-Stars and the Madawaska Madness, secured their spots to the Canada Cup only the night before on July 18th and had an early flight to Edmonton the following morning! They arrived full of energy and spent the day (and weekend) supporting Beach Volleyball in Canada.

On Friday night, July 19th, the Women’s teams hit the court at NAIT. The Cold Garden Tropikills, the back-to-back champions of the Calgary League took on the Galaxy Volleyball All-Stars.

In this 5 set thriller of a match, the Cold Garden Tropikills claimed the first Canada Cup and the title of the BEST Women’s team in the Premier Volleyball League. The final score was 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 22-25, 27-25, 15-10).

On Saturday night, July 20th, the Men’s teams took to the court. The Madawaska Madness took on the GBE Dinos, both teams winning the Premier Cup for the first time in their respective League’s and each team looking for the ultimate bragging rights of being the BEST Men’s team in the Premier League.

The men also took 5 sets to decide the Champion and in the end, the Madawaska Madness took it home after a nail-biting final set! The final score was 3-2 (14-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-27, 19-17).
